A multidose vial of medication must be opened in a non patient care area. You are required to document the day or opening or expiration (this will be 28 days from the opening date, or manufacturer's expiration date, whichever is sooner). Draw up the medication from the multidose vial to include drug name, drug strength, amount, expiration date and time and name or initials of person transferring the drug. The remaining vial shall be placed in a multidose storage area. You can store opened multidose vials in a clean non patient care area. Ensure that you have a sink and the proper work station to draw.
